Passing along the word - Volunteer Ministers Needed to Help Survivors of Java Floods

Have the disasters of the past three years drastically accelerated or have I simply become more aware of it? It could be both. Since 9/11, my church (The Church of Scientology) has greatly expanded its disaster relief activities.

But I am afraid those who predicted dire consequences of global warming from the criminal squandering of our natural resources coupled with today-only "Science," that has brought us technology without conscience, have been right and we are beginning to reap the results of our collective irresponsibility.

Sadly, it is countries like Indonesia, that played a much more minor role in the creation of the problem, who are most affected.

Here's the latest news on Scientology Disaster Relief -- this time it's Indonesia, yet again.

Scientology Disaster Relief Team in Jakarta, Indonesia

TheScientology Disaster Relief Team, which spent several months in Yogyakarta helping local residents recover from the 6.2 magnitude earthquake last summer, is looking for volunteers to augment the team helping victims of flooding in Jakarta Indonesia, where an estimated 450,000 fled their homes after the worst flood in years left 75 dead last week.

In the wake of the flooding, hospitals anticipate a dramatic increase in the number of patients, due to expected disease in the flood areas.

The Church of Scientology of Perth and the Church of Scientology of Sydney have put out a call to trained volunteer ministers to commit to help handle this emergency. Training on disaster relief courses based on the Scientology Handbook

The Scientology Disaster Relief Team is funded entirely by donations. Anyone wishing to the join the team will be trained. For information on volunteering or contributing to the relief effort, visit the Scientology Volunteer Ministers web site at http://www.volunteerministers.org/locate/locate.html.

How obvious it is that we have to do something, not only to help the victims of today's disaster, but to handle the source of this.

In his non-religious moral code, L. Ron Hubbard wrote that one of the steps on the Way to Happiness is:

Safeguard and improve your environment and specifically Help take care of the planet.

I am reminded of something David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center, said a few years ago at the grand opening of the Church of Scientology of Buffalo:

Yet, look around the world today, speak to people and you will hear: "But what can I do about it? I'm just me." Well, the truth of the matter is that "thee and me" are the most powerful force on this God created Earth.

Hate to break it to you, but the "Thee and Me," is the blogosphere. We actually have the power to make huge change for the better by pulling together on issues that really matter to our own lives and the future.

Borrowed Images

Jettero posted this great photo on his blog the other day:

Now Jet found it on Thorston Overgaard's site called After the Tsunami

And Thorston's comments on his experience with the Scientology Disaster Relief team were:

They appreciated our help - many people we met on the streets stopped us to thank us for being there and for our efforts - but they resent western, often materialistic, people coming to their country and try to run things, tell them to change their religion, eat pills to be happier about the tsunami, paint their houses in some trendy colors and what have you. What they wanted was help and support to help themselves come back to the life they have been living for thousands of years in harmony with nature and their soul.

I have an Indian friend who was is also a Scientologist. I was surprised to hear just how much similarity there is in our belief systems. For example, her family approached the subject of death so diffrently from the way Americans or Europeans do. The attitude was more like - I wish the person weren't in so much pain and I'll miss him. But because we know the person isn't dying, that it's just his body that is, the overwhelment dispair and remorse I used to feel at the time of the death of a friend or family member is absent now. Not that you will miss him or her less. But it isn't devastating.

There is a very simple procedure in the Scientology Handbook to help a person come through a death or any other heavy loss. It doesn't bring teh person back, but it helps you get on with your life. And for really effective results on handling loss, Dianetics is the best!

Scientology Disaster Relief Training

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers are so effective in times of disaster, and part of the reason why (maybe the main reason) is their training.

The Scientology Handbook is the basis of the training. The book is a compilation of L. Ron Hubbard's works on basic technology anyone can learn to improve conditions in his life and help other people.

The book grew out of L. Ron Hubbard's sociological research in the early 1970s when he discovered how much the society had deteriorated.

On the Scientology Volunteer Minister web site there you can request a seminar for your area.

This is the graduation ceremony of a group of fire fighters who took the Scientology Volunteer Ministers Disaster Relief training in India.

The work the Volunteer Ministers are doing in that country is really wonderful. India has a lot of issues. Huge population, poverty, disease, environmentally it is a disaster with polution levels far exceeding safe levels. And if that weren't bad enough, there is still the caste system.

But despite that, there is a recognition of the spirit, and the importance of spiritual freedom and spiritual understanding. And so Scientology is welcomed. And once people see how effective Scientology techniques are they embrace it.

I've been keeping in touch with the work they are doing through the Scientology press office.

More on the Scientology Volunteer Ministers in India

Do you follow the news about the Scientology VMs in India?

It gets covered pretty regularly on the Scientology Press Office site.

After following the news there, when David Miscavige described what they're doing at this year's New Years event I felt like he was talking about my close friends, even through I'd never met them myself.

There's a new story there this week, about celebrating Republic of India Day in Kolkata.

Scientology in South Africa

I just heard that the Church of Scientology of Cape Town has purchased a new building for their church. And Pretoria too.

Pretty exciting.

The Scientology church in Johannesburg is stunning, and a friend of mind who lives there tells me that the best part about it is that anyone can just walk in and find out about Scientology for themselves -- the displays and videos explaining various aspects of Scientology basically speak for themselves.

I can't wait till every Scientology church has that feature.

David Miscavige attended the grand opening of the church in Johanessburg. I wonder if he'll go for the grand openings of the others too.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers for West Bengal

I've been following the work of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers of West Bengal. Dr. Mohammad Khalil Ulah and his team are transforming the slums of Kolkata and making life so much better for the children there.

As a Scientologist I am so proud to be a part of the VM movement, and I think he is a great example of what one man can accomplish.
