Another Day in the Life of the Scientology Disaster Relief Team in the Philippines

I found this story particularly touching.

Especially in light of the fact the rest of us are "off" for Christmas week. But there's no "off" in the disaster zone.

Here's my thanks to the Scientolgy Volunteer Ministers who are there, helping people who really need help. (For more information on the techniques the Scientology VMs use, visit the Scientology Handbook web site.)

Why I Volunteer

Around about August 1970, after I'd been in Scientology a bit over a month, I realized that all I wanted to do was use what I'd learned so far to help people.

It's pretty funny because right up to that point I couldn't decide what I wanted to do with my life -- went through four years of college and over a year of graduate school and never found a job I really wanted to do.

Then my life completely changed.

I've been working as a Scientology volunteer ever since.

It isn't always easy. And I'd be lying if I said it was always fun. But it is always rewarding, and when I see what I've done to help others -- well nothing can swerve me from doing what I do.

L. Ron Hubbard has given us such a precious gift. If you have not yet experienced what Scientology can do, read a book. Try it out. See for yourself if it works.

It does!

Scientology Volunteers Spotlighted at New Years Event

The Scientology New Years Event took place in LA last night, and I got to go.

The event was spectacular.

David Miscavige, as the master of ceremonies and keynote speaker, outdid himself. And that's saying a lot because ALL of speeches are great.

But unlike some people who talk a good talk but don't necessarily "walk the walk" David Miscavige is a man of such action and integrity that I find him a total inspiration.

One of the best things about the event was the release. It has to do with a film, and L. Ron Hubbard. I won't say more till New Years, as I don't want to spoil the surprise for people who will be watching the event on the 31st.

But if you were not sure whether to go to the event or not. GO. It is a total blockbuster!

Scientology Volunteer Ministers — Committed to the Children of Kolkata

Here is another story of the great work the Scientology Volunteer Ministers of Kolkata are doing.<p>

As 2006 comes to a close, one stark fact of life in India has drawn the attention of the world community.

Where we have all but eliminated polio in the Americas, Europe and the western Pacific, there was a ten fold increase in new polio cases in India this year — the country that accounts for half of all new polio cases in the world.

Scientists are puzzled, since an active polio vaccination program exists in the country. Is the vaccine not getting to the children who are being crippled for life by this disease? Or are terrible sanitary conditions to blame? Doctors warn that other infections, such as diarrheal illnesses, can overtax the immune system to the point that the vaccine doesn't take effect.

But whatever the final answer, one thing is clear — the safety of the children is at stake, and fast action is needed to address all possible causes.

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers of West Bengal, committed to giving these youngsters every possible chance to survive, are assisting government health professional this week. They have made their center a distribution point for this government polio prevention program, and are rounding up children from the Kolkata slums, to make sure they get their vaccine.

As L. Ron Hubbard wrote in The Way to Happiness — a common-sense moral code that the West Bengal Volunteer Ministers distribute throughout the community — "Today's children will become tomorrow's civilization. Bringing a child into the world today is a little bit like dropping one into a tiger's cage. Children can't handle their environment and they have no real resources. They need love and help to make it."As 2006 comes to a close, one stark fact of life in India has drawn the attention of the world community.

VMs in Australia - Latest News on the Fires

Scientology Volunteer Ministers from Victoria have mobilised to help fire-fighters combat the worst bushfires in Victoria's history. The first two VMs, from the Church of Scientology of Melbourne, set off to the fire zone on Saturday. They set up their signature yellow tent right at the Heyfield staging area, which is the headquarters for 250 fire-fighters, and as the word started to spread through the ranks of how helpful the Scientology assists were in relieving fatigue and tension, the VMs were inundated by fire-fighters waiting for their help. >> continued

Scientology Volunteer Ministers in Victoria, Australia

The brushfires are expected to continue another 2 weeks minimum.

There are thousands of volunteer firefighters on the ground. With temperatures of around 104 degrees F. and fires having burned an area the size of Luxemburg, they need all the help they can get.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers are on the ground doing whatever is needed to assist in the effort.

If you can go, do so. If you can't but you can help support the volutneers who are there, your help is needed.

Contact vm@volunteerministers.org for information on what you can do to help.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers in Kolkata on Human Rights Day

I enjoyed reading this article from the Scientology Press Office

An estimated 25% of the people of India live below the poverty line. That means more than 250 million men women and children — a population nearly the equivalent to that of the entire United States.

So nowhere is this year's theme for Human Rights Day more appropriate, and nowhere is the need for the effective solutions contained in the technology of L. Ron Hubbard more vital.>> continued

Scientology Volunteer Ministers Needed for Typhoon Durian Relief

As reported by Reuters:

"Philippines, Dec 4 (Reuters) - The Philippines fears up to 1,000 people have been killed in landslides and flooding triggered by Typhoon Durian but officials said on Monday that many of the bodies might never be retrieved.

"President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo declared a state of national calamity after Durian, which was set to hit the Vietnamese coast on Monday, killed 425 people and left nearly 600 missing across three central regions."

If you are a Volunteer Ministers and you can go, or if you are wiling to train as a VM and want to help, contact your nearest Scientology church or the Volunteer Ministers coordinator at vm@volunteerministers.org Read about Scientology Volunteer Ministers and the kind of work they do in this speech by Mr David Miscavige.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers Cavalcades

This is a wonderful program of bringing the help of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers to areas where there may not be a Scientology Church or Mission, and even where there is one, such as the East Coast VM Cavalcade which is in Harlem right now, it still brings the technology right to the community.

It's wonderful to see the kind of help people receive there.
