David Miscavige Speaks about the Scientology Volunteer Ministers
In 2004 at the 35th anniversary of the founding of the Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International, Mr. David Miscavige described the Scientology religion in a speech now known as This is Scientology. Part of that speech was a description of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers program.
I just noticed there is a new section on the Volunteer Ministers web site with a transcription of that speech.
Here's a description of the Scientology religion from the Scientology Handbook web site:
The Scientology religion contains workable answers to the problems people face in their lives. The subject matter of Scientology is all life. It contains practical means through which predictable improvement can be obtained in any area to which it is applied.
Look what I found on Netscape! Someone tagged a Scientology Volunteer Ministers story.
Way to GO!
“A being is only as valuable as he can serve others.” --L. Ron Hubbard
Volunteer in English comes from the concept to do something on one's own determinism.
Scientology volunteers live up to both derivations -- they do what they do of their own will and because they know and use Scientology technology they not only "wish well," they actually "do good."
When I was a kid the only Girl Scout troup and it had a huge long waiting list. So my mother, who was the greatest, became a Girl Scout leader so I could belong to a troup.
Unfortunately my mom wasn't much of a Scout herself, and the troup degenerated into a social club. We'd meet once a week to go roller skating or ice skating at the skating rink and that was it.
On the other hand I have some friends who have volunteered to run their local chapter of the Drug-Free Marshals or Drug-Free Ambassadors (in Australia). Now these kids have a mission -- to keep their friends and other kids off drugs.
It's pretty fabulous what they do.
It's pretty impressive.
I've been a Scientologist for more than 30 years, and I've really never seen anywhere near the level of dedication and contribution as I've seen since David Miscavige wrote an essay called the "Wake Up Call" right after 9/11.
Mr. Miscavige described 9/11 as a wake up call because it was all too clear an example of the need to make L. Ron Hubbard's technology broadly available and at once on an individual and social level.
The Aims of Scientology, as stated by L. Ron Hubbard are "A civilization without insanity, without criminals and without war, where the able can prosper and honest beings can have rights, and where man is free to rise to greater heights." The accomplishment of these aims is what we are working for as a religious movement.
This doesn't mean that everyone has to be a Scientologist. Far from it. But it certainly does mean that Scientology technology contains solutions to the social problems that plague us.
This site is the work of Anne Archer, Oscar-nominated actress, winner of the International Association of Scientologists Freedom Medal, and long-time human rights advocate.
There is a wonderful quote by Nelson Mandela on the homepage:
"No one is born hating another person because of the color of their skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite."

This is the new Scientology Volunteer Ministers Goodwill Tour about to take off for parts oriental. They are boarding the trans-Siberian railway and they're heading east.
11 time zones later they will reach the Sea of Japan.
In between they will help people with Scientology technology from the Scientology Handbook.
I found this story on the Scientology news room. I'm sure there will be many more stories of their adventures along the way.
In June I attended an event where David Miscavige spoke about the Scientology Volunteer Ministers. Mr. Miscavige is Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center, and he often acts as master of ceremonies of international Scientology events. He gave a summary of just some of the actions Volunteer Ministers have taken over the previous 6 months to make life better for their fellow man, and I must say it was pretty impressive.
As a child I remember seeing the movie "South Pacific" and as a teenager I was completely captivated by the book Mutiny on the Bounty. To me the south sea islands were the most romantic and exciting place on earth.
Unfortunately the South Pacific islands have their fair share or problems -- poverty, lack of education and industry, environmental issues encroaching on their survival -- and they need effective technology to combat these problems and provide a decent future for their citizens, just as those of us in the more technologically sophisticated countries do.
So I was really intrigued when I read that a Scientology Volunteer Ministers Goodwill Tour is about to launch in the area. I read this on the Scientology News Room web site"
The Scientology Volunteer Ministers Goodwill Tour is in Auckland New Zealand, preparing for its launch to Fiji, the first stop in its tour through the South Pacific islands.
As with the Volunteer Ministers Goodwill Tours in Africa, Central Europe, South America and India, and new tours about to embark on their humanitarian mission across Russia and the Far East, the team will meet with civic leaders in each nation, learn what the community needs and provide training to help them accomplish their humanitarian goals, using technology developed by Scientology founder,
"A Volunteer Minister is a person who helps his fellow man on a volunteer basis by restoring purpose, truth and spiritual values to the lives of others.
"A Volunteer Minister does not shut his eyes to the pain, evil and injustice of existence. Rather, he is trained to handle these things and help others achieve relief from them and new personal strength as well."

On http://helpingkids.blogspot.com/ Jenny wrote:
There are some great stories on the ScientologyVolunteer Ministers web site of the work Mohammad Khalil Ullah is doing, using
L. Ron Hubbard technology to help the kids of Calcutta.
There are more than 12 million people living in Calcutta. Many of them in the slums. These kids don't have a chance for a decent life. Most of them are without education; far too many fall into the hands of drug and sexual traffickers. Even if a child avoids getting involved in crime, what chance does he or she have to move up in society without knowing how to read.
In his speech called This is Scientology Mr. David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center emphasizes that the solutions we need today are found in the material but in the spiritual. Mr. Ulla is someone who recognizes this and has been using Scientology technology to help resolve serious issues in society.
