Scientology Human Rights Volunteer Programs

Many Scientologists do volunteer work to bring Human Rights into full application in their areas and around the world.

Some Scientologists support the Citizens Commission on Human Rights who work to bring psychiatry under the law thus eliminating their human rights

Others work to educate youth on the importance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, helping young people form up Youth for Human Rights Clubs.

Others work to make the Universal Declaration on Human Rights known to adults through petition drives, seminars, and other educational programs.

One reason Scientologists are very active in human rights is because it is a core belief of the religion. the Creed of the Church of Scientology
states: "that all men of whatever race, color, or creed were created with equal rights"

The Code of a Scientologist expects a Scientologist to: "support true humanitarian edeavors in the fields of human rights."

Scientology Human Rights Activism

Scientologists are very dedicated to human rights, and participate in various groups to help bring this about.

Some of these groups are Youth for Human Rights International, Citizens Commission on Human Rights (which defends and protects the rights of persons who get into the hands of psychiatry or psychology) and the  Foundation for Human Rights and Tolerance.

The Church of Scientology in England   originally founded Citizens Commission on Human Rights in 1969, and has worked with this mental health watchdog group over the years to guarantee the rights of persons abused by the mental health profession.

Citizens Commission on Human Rights International headquarters, located in Los Angeles houses the museum of psychiatry and is well worth visiting if you are in LA.

Youth for Human Rights is a grassroots movement, headed by educator Mary Shuttleworth, and has groups and clubs in such diverse places as Thailand, India, Guyana, South Africa and Mexico.

Scientology churches are very involved in their communities.  The Scientology  Effective Solutions site gives good data on some of their activities.

Also, the Center for the Study of New Religions has a page with articles and documents about the Church of  Scientology, which includes information on some of the social programs Scientology members are active in.
