Scientology Volunteer Ministers in Guatemala and Mexico

Scientology Volunteer Ministers are being contacted and asked to go to Guatemala and Mexico to help with disaster relief actions there and other Central American countries that were hit by Hurricane Stan.

What a terrible year this has been so far, for natural catastrophes!

Scientology Churches Support the Volunteer Effort in Louisiana and Mississippi

Nearly 1000 Scientology Volunteer Ministers traveled to Louisiana and  Mississippi or helped in shelters in other cities where evacuees were given temprorary shelter during the month of September.

And while they were there, Scientology churches around the country supported them with fund raising and pulling together supplies needed to help the victims.

Here's a little piece that was printed in the Columbia Spectator, about the work the Church of Scientology of Harlem did to back up the relief effort:

Since the disaster, the Church of Scientology of Harlem has been working with their main branch on 46th Street to transport supplies to southern areas that need them. Using a moving company, they have transported clothing, baby clothes, diapers, and toiletries donated by parishioners to regions in the Gulf.

“We’ve gotten word not to send additional clothes—they have enough,” said Rev. Willie Frink Jr., pastor and executive director of the church. “However, toiletries are still needed and they want us to send cash donations. The need changes on an hourly basis.”

In addition to donations, 500 volunteer ministers have been deployed nationwide and are working in different shelters in the Gulf region. Many of the volunteers trained to deal with crisis situations were also involved with volunteer efforts on September 11, 2001. Their responsibilities include distributing food, water, and supplies, as well as administering vaccines.

“I’m quite encouraged by the outpour of concern,” said Frink of his congregation’s willingness to make donations and participate. “I believe that everyone wants to always do something, and to give people that opportunity is a good thing.”
