Scientology Volunteer Ministers Helping in the Deep South

I'm proud to reprint this article about what my friends are doing to help in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.  More and more stories are coming out about this, just like the ones David Miscavige spoke about at an event this summer of people who went to help after last winter's tsunamis.  I'm printing it here because this is the kind of thing about which I'm most proud of the Scientology religion.

James to join New Orleans rescue effort

Weston Mercury

newsdesk@thewestonmercury.co.uk

A volunteer is planning to fly to New Orleans to try to help people suffering in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

James Kennedy, of Bristol Road, Churchill, wants to travel to the American city next week so he can help provide people with food, water and medical supplies.

Although he has already raised enough money for flights and accommodation, he still needs sponsorship so he can stay in the city for as long as is needed.

The 21-year-old is a volunteer minister for the Church Of Scientology, which counts stars such as Tom Cruise among its members.

James was due to travel to Plymouth today (Fri) for some last-minute preparations and hopes to fly out with 10 other volunteer ministers on Monday.

Volunteer ministers travel to areas which have suffered from natural disasters to help with the recovery operation.

James has just finished a course in childcare and education at Weston College and is taking a gap year. He plans to study for a social work degree at Plymouth University.

He said: "I think anyone who has done something for someone who is in desperate need will know that it is one of the most satisfying things you could ever do.

"During disasters such as September 11 and the Asian tsunami, the volunteer ministers worked on the front line with people from organisations such as Salvation Army and the Red Cross.

"As well as providing food and medical supplies we are also trained in counselling people."

Anyone who wants to sponsor James should call 07796 605500 or visit www.volunteerministers.org

More on the Disaster Relief Effort following Katrina

Hundreds of Volunteer Ministers have arrived on Louisianna but thousands more are needed.

There is an urgent need for  more.

If you go to the Scientology Volunteer Ministers site the latest news and directions of what is needed for volunteers and donations is there.

I'm sure everyone knows this is the worst natural disaster in the history of the US, and we have to all pull together to help these people and restore things back to the condition they were in.

This summer Mr. David Miscavige gave a terrific briefing to Scientologists on what was done this past winter by Volunteer Ministers in the aftermath of the tsunami.  Mr. Miscavige also earlier awarded those volunteer ministers who went to help after the terrorist attacks at Ground Zero in NY.

Those were, unfortunately, good training grounds for what we have to do to handle the devastation left by Katrina.

We would never have expected something like this happening to use here - but there it is and we have to pick up the pieces.

I invite anyone who is willing to help to join us.

We will train you and put you to work doing something that will really help.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers Needed to Help after Hurricane Katrina

Urgent help is needed for the vicitms of Hurricane Katrina.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers are coming from around the U.S. and to help with disaster relief.

They are going to the Scientology Mission of Baton Rouge and the Scientolgy Mission of Lafayette LA.

The Scientology Mission of Baton Rouge can be reached as follows:

9432 Common Street
Baton Rouge, 70809
Tel: 225-298-7804
e-mail:  baton-rouge@sceintology.net

The Scientology Mission of Lafayette can be reached as follows:

102 Huggins Road
Lafatette, LA 70506
tel: 337-988-7756
e-mail:  lafatette@scientology.net

Because the Volunteer Ministers at these location  are pretty much flat out helping victims of the disaster it might be better to call the Volunteer Ministers hotline at the Scientology Volunteer Ministers webstie

Anyone who can help is welcome to join us, whether or not you are a Scientologist and whether you are trained as a Volunteer Minister or not.  Help is needed in the way of people who can help with kids, who can cook, pass out food and clothing, and with administration.  Shortly there will also be a real need for people who can confront helping with the cleanup.

We can use hundreds, even thousands of volunteers, and we will USE your help!

Go to the Scientology Volunteer Ministers web site for information on who to contact, and join us!

At a recent event (this summer) Mr. David Miscavige described the fantastic work Scientology VMs did to help with the tsunamis.  Although this tragedy is nowhere NEAR the level of devestation that occurred there, it is still a tremendous amount to confront and handle and we really need help to pull this off!
