(PRLEAP.COM) Mark Cullen, from North London, who works at the Embassy of Ireland, felt he couldn’t stand by without personally contributing to the aid effort in the Tsunami affected areas.
Using his relief training he acquired from a course he did last year at Celebrity Centre, a church of Scientology for artists, Bayswater, Mark became a fully qualified Scientology Volunteer Minister able to help people overcome the trauma of a disaster and able to put in organization when there is chaos. In Sri Lanka, he helped organize beach clean ups and he administered the simple techniques called ‘assists’ to local people in bereavement and fear of the sea, to the police and other aid workers and watched them smile, regain their confidence and even go to work and play in the sea again. He then went on to teach seminars to hundreds of people in schools, refugee camps and police stations around the Trincomalee area.
Why I Volunteer
I have been a Scientologist more than half my life, and it is when I became a Scientologist that I really became dedicated to volunteering.
The definition of a volunteer is:
- One who gives service without reward or promise of reward.
- An individual who performs activities of one’s own free will that provide service to the community without monetary. It is an expression of active participation in the life of a community.
- To work for someone for nothing, to offer your services without receiving payment for work.
One of the basic beliefs of my church, as expressed in the Creed of the Church of Scientology, is:
That man is basically good;
That he is seeking to survive;
That his survival depends upon himself and upon his fellows and his attainment of brotherhood with the universe.
I am a Scientology Volunteer Ministers, and I have gained as much or more from the people I have helped as they have, and I will continue as long as I am able.
